Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a fatal crash in Attwood this morning.
A vehicle with three occupants was travelling south-bound on Mickleham Road has veered into oncoming traffic and was t-boned by two vehicles about 7am.
A male passenger in the south-bound vehicle, aged 18 from Tullamarine, was taken to hospital where he later died.
The 18-year-old male driver and 17-year-old male passenger in the same vehicle, both from Greenvale, were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The single occupants of the two other vehicles were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Extensive delays are expected while detectives work to determine the cause of the collision.
