Greater Dandenong Neighbourhood Policing Team have interviewed a man and a woman following the discovery of 23 imitation firearms in Dandenong.
Officers attended a market on Clow Street and Cleeland Street about 2.40pm on Sunday, 26 April as part of a proactive investigation into the sale of imitation firearms in the area.
During their foot patrols officers came across two market stalls, both of which allegedly had imitation firearms on display and available for sale.
From the stalls, officers located and seized:
- (x7) ‘AK47’ imitation assault rifles
- (x8) ‘Glock’ imitation semi-automatic pistols
- (x7) ‘Desert Eagle’ imitation semi-automatic pistols
- (x1) imitation pump action shotgun.
A 63-year-old Rowville woman and a 49-year-old Berwick man were spoken to by police at the scene and will be charged on summons with display prohibited weapon for sale without exemption.
This proactive investigation follows an incident where a man was arrested after he was allegedly in possession of an imitation firearm on McRae Street in Dandenong on 21 April.
The 30-year-old man was charged with prohibited person possess imitation firearm and bailed to appear at court at a later date.
Officers will continue to patrol and monitor the sale of imitation firearms in the area.
