Pedestrian dies after being struck by car in Alexandra

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating after a pedestrian was fatally struck by a car in Alexandra this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to reports of the collision at the intersection of Downey and Grant streets just before 12.30pm.

The pedestrian, a 65-year-old Alexandra woman, was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

The driver, a 77-year-old Alexandra man, was not injured.

He was interviewed and released pending further enquiries.

The investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding the collision.
