Police charge two men with over 170 offences

Melton Volume Crime Response Team detectives have charged two men with over 170 charges as part of an extensive investigation into a series of incidents between February and May.

Detectives investigated 48 alleged aggravated burglaries, burglaries, and theft of motor vehicles in the Thornhill Park, Weir Views, Hillside, Point Cook, Footscray, Maribyrnong, Somerton, Diggers Rest, Yarraville, Cairnlea, Sandringham, Ascot Vale, Hoppers Crossing, Truganina, Seaholme, Keilor, Belmont, Ivanhoe and Watsonia areas.

With assistance from Wyndham Crime Investigation Unit and the Melton Divisional Crime Tasking Team, three search warrants were executed in Hoppers Crossing, Laverton, and Werribee South on Tuesday.

Officers located and seized a number of allegedly stolen items during the warrants.

Two men, a 35-year-old from Hoppers Crossing and a 36-year-old from Laverton were arrested.

The 35-year-old man was charged with 90 offences, including:

  • aggravated burglary
  • (x33) burglary
  • (x7) attempted burglary
  • (x28) theft
  • (x7) theft of motor vehicle
  • (x5) criminal damage
  • theft from motor vehicle
  • possess weapons
  • possess drug of dependence
  • handle stolen goods
  • possess counterfeit money
  • possess proceeds of crime.

The 36-year-old was charged with 85 offences, including:

  • aggravated burglary
  • (x33) burglary
  • (x7) attempted burglary
  • (x28) counts of theft
  • (x7) theft of motor vehicle
  • (x5) criminal damage
  • possess weapons
  • theft from motor vehicle
  • possess drug of dependence.

The pair were remanded to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 12 August.
