Police investigate after man attacked in Essendon

Moonee Valley Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating after a man was slashed with a machete by an unknown man in Essendon this morning.

Officers have been told the victim was at a car wash on Mount Alexander Road when a vehicle pulled up in the entrance about 9am.

An unknown male offender, armed with a machete, approached the victim and slashed his hand.

The victim attempted to run away before the offender slashed him again to the upper body.

The offender fled in the vehicle and left the victim seriously injured.

Emergency services quickly arrived on scene and the victim, a 43-year-old Doreen man, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The offender was wearing dark clothing and a balaclava.

The vehicle is described as a dark SUV.

Detectives are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time, who may have been driving past and have dashcam or CCTV vision, to come forward.
