Police investigate fatal collision in Violet Town

Benalla Highway Patrol officers are investigating a fatal collision in Violet Town this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the Hume Freeway near Harrys Creek Road following report a B-double truck was involved in a collision just before 1.30pm.

It is believed the truck collided with a road workers truck and then veered across the median strip where it clipped a car, before it rolled and caught fire.

The driver of the B-double truck, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.

The driver of the second truck was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Four occupants inside the car were all taken to hospital for observation.

The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be established and an investigation is ongoing.
