Detectives are investigating and appealing for public assistance following an aggravated carjacking in Rowville early this morning.

Investigators have been told a man advertised his grey Saab on an online platform and arranged to meet with potential buyers near the corner of Police and Stud roads about 12.30am.

The man drove his grey Saab and was accompanied by a woman in a green Mazda to the meet up.

On arrival, it is understood the pair were confronted by a group of male offenders who arrived in a silver MG.

Police were told they threatened the man and woman with machetes, before stealing both vehicles.

The offenders fled in the Saab, Mazda and MG.

One of the victims, a 21-year-old man, sustained minor injuries.

Despite a thorough search of the area, the stolen vehicles nor the offenders were located.

Knox Crime Investigation Unit detectives are working to establish the circumstances of the incident.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, has dashcam or CCTV footage or anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit an online confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au

Both online sellers and buyers are reminded that special zones where they can exchange items purchased online have been established outside 24-hour police stations across Victoria.

The exchange sites provide people transacting items listed on online marketplaces with a safer alternative than meeting unknown people at locations such as their homes, parks or carparks.

This provides a safer alternative than meeting someone at your home or in a dimly lit area with no CCTV, however we still encourage people to consider the risks of meeting a person they’ve never met before.

Police suggest meeting during daylight hours if possible.
