Rider charged following routine intercept in South Morang

Greensborough Highway Patrol officers turned a routine intercept into the remand of a man in South Morang early this morning.


It is alleged the man was riding a Yamaha motorcycle along Plenty Road when he was intercepted by officers about 1am.


Checks allegedly revealed the man didn’t have a license, had false plates fitted to the motorcycle and was wanted on an outstanding matter.


Police conducted drug and alcohol testing on the man, who allegedly returned a positive drug test.


The man allegedly refused the secondary drug test however he was subsequently arrested for the outstanding matter.


The 53-year-old Hadfield man was taken into custody and charged with an array of offences including:

  • unlicensed driving

  • refuse oral fluid test

  • unregistered motorcycle

  • possess methylamphetamine

  • fraudulently use registration plate

He was remanded in custody to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.
