Greater Dandenong Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged three youths following an aggravated carjacking in Dandenong this morning.

Police were called to Dandenong Railway Station around 2.50am following reports a man and woman had stolen a taxi.

It will be alleged the male taxi driver was sitting in his vehicle on the Princes Highway on ramp when he was approached by a male and female wearing balaclavas.

The duo opened the rear doors of the taxi and threatened the driver with a knife.

The driver was able to exit the taxi and flee on foot, whilst the male and female left in the vehicle.

Police believe the duo have then picked up a third person in the vehicle.

A short time later motorists reported to Triple Zero (000) a taxi had crashed into a barrier on the Princes Highway entry to the South Gippsland Highway.

Quick responding Operation Trinity units along with the Dog Squad searched for the trio before they were found in the vicinity of Doveton Avenue in Eumemmering.

Police have charged a 16-year-old girl from the Bayside area and a 16-year-old boy from the Hume area with aggravated carjacking.

They are due to appear at a children’s court today.

A 15-year-old girl from the Greater Dandenong area was charged with theft of motor vehicle and is due to appear at a children’s court at a later date.
