Three charged following Kew East home invasion

Boroondara Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged three people following an alleged home invasion in Kew East this morning.

A 24-year-old man and two teenagers, aged 17 and 16, have all been charged with:

  • aggravated home invasion
  • intentionally cause serious injury
  • recklessly cause serious injury
  • recklessly cause injury (4)
  • false imprisonment
  • theft of mobile phones
  • theft of motor vehicle

Five offenders allegedly smashed a large window and entered the home on Oxford Street about 4am.

Two occupants, a husband and wife, were allegedly confronted by the five intruders and put into separate rooms.

The 39-year-old man, who was stabbed multiple times, was transported to hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

The 34-year-old woman from the house was treated for minor injuries.

Two other adults, aged 69 and 70, who were in the house at the time were also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The two children, aged 2 and 3, and a fifth adult were not physically injured.

Four of the offenders allegedly got into the victims BMW, while the fifth offender left in the vehicle they arrived in.

The BMW was located dumped on Christie Street in Deer Park.

Three of the occupants of the vehicle were arrested a short time later on Hamilton Street and interviewed by detectives.

The 24-year-old Caroline Springs man was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 5 November.

The 17-year-old boy from the Frankston area and the 16-year-old boy from the Caroline Springs area were both remanded to appear at a children’s court at a later date.

Police believe two male offenders remain outstanding at this stage and investigations are ongoing.
