Detectives from Taskforce Lunar have charged three men as part of their investigation into an aggravated burglary in Ringwood earlier this year where a number of firearms were stolen.
Five search warrants were executed yesterday (12 August) at four residential properties in Glenroy, Epping, Thomastown and Mickleham, as well as a commercial property in Preston.
A 33-year-old Glenroy man, a 20-year-old Thomastown man and a 37-year-old Mickleham man were arrested and interviewed by police.
The trio were subsequently charged as follows:
- The 33-year-old man was charged with aggravated home invasion, theft, possess traffickable quantity of firearms, prohibited person possess firearm, possess ammunition, deal with property suspected proceeds of crime and possess schedule 4 poison (steroids);
- The 20-year-old man was charged with aggravated home invasion and possess proceeds of crime; and
- The 37-year-old man was charged with aggravated home invasion, possess ammunition, possess prescribed drug of dependence and handle stolen goods.
All three were remanded in custody overnight to face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.
Police also seized a number of items from the properties during the warrants, including two handguns, ammunition, firearm storage equipment, two machetes, a large quantity of cash, steroids and stolen property including number plates, ID documents and slabs of energy drinks.
Investigators also seized over 50,000 illicit cigarettes and 18,000 illicit vapes from the Preston storage facility.
Yesterday’s warrants were conducted as part of the investigation into an aggravated burglary in Ringwood on 22 June.
It’s alleged a group of men broke into the Wilana Street address shortly before 2am and stole a number of items including firearms and ammunition.
The male occupant of the address was not physically injured.
Detectives are treating it as a targeted incident and the investigation remains ongoing.
