Three teenagers have been charged after an alleged stabbing in Oakleigh last week.
Detectives from the Eastern Region Crime Squad today executed three search warrants across Melbourne’s eastern and southeastern suburbs and arrested three boys.
The trio, a 17-year-old from the Stonnington area, a 14-year-old from the Greater Dandenong area and a 17-year-old from the Knox area, have been charged with a range of offences including:
- intentionally causing serious injury in circumstances of gross violence
- intentionally causing serious injury
- recklessly causing serious injury
- violent disorder
- affray
- assault with a weapon
- common law assault
The charges follow an incident outside a business at Eaton Mall about 7.45pm last Friday 17 April.
A group of approximately 12 people were seated when they were allegedly approached by a large group wearing balaclavas, with some carrying machetes.
An 18-year-old Malvern East man was stabbed and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A 16-year-old male was also assaulted but sustained no physical injuries.
Police will allege the parties involved in the incident are known to each other.
The charged trio will appear before a children’s court this afternoon where police will apply for remand.
The boys from the Stonnington and Greater Dandenong areas have also been charged with committing an indictable offence while on bail, as well as affray-related offences for an incident in Oakleigh on 8 April.
The investigation remains ongoing, with further arrests expected.
Proactive patrols will also continue in the Oakleigh area.
Anyone who witnessed the incident, has dashcam/CCTV footage or with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
