Detectives are appealing for witnesses to a Southbank burglary, where an unsuspecting ride-share driver may have been cast as a getaway wheelman.
Detectives believe an unknown male offender gained access to a business on City Road via an unlocked door and made a phone call to an accomplice about 4.20am on Friday 17 April.
Less than an hour later, a second male arrived on scene and also entered the building.
The pair stole items including an oil pump and Tek Edge tools valued at about $1000.
The offenders took off from the scene in a white Toyota Camry, stationary on Ballantyne Street about 5.15am.
Investigators believe the person behind the wheel of the Toyota may have been a ride-share driver, completely unaware of the burglary.
Police have released images and CCTV footage of two males whom they believe can assist with the investigation.
The first man is perceived to be of a stocky build, about 40-years-old, Caucasian in appearance, with dark hair and a goatee beard.
At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black cap with yellow writing, blue jeans, black jumper, black runners and carrying a grey backpack and black duffle bag.
The second man is of medium build, aged in his 30s or 40s, Caucasian in appearance, unshaven, with brown hair.
He was wearing a North Face puffer jacket with blue trimmings, a grey hoodie, black jeans, black runners with red laces and carrying a Coles reusable cold bag.
Detectives are urging anyone with information about the burglary, or who can assist in identifying the two males, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
