Victoria Police have announced a $1 million reward for information surrounding the murder of Tracey Howard.

Tracey Howard’s naked body was located in long grass on Clarkes Hill Road in Pootilla on Monday 23 November, 1998, a day after she was last seen leaving a Ballarat Nightclub. 

Around 3.15am on Sunday 22 November, the 23-year-old Ballarat woman left the Cheers Nightclub alone and walked to a nearby taxi rank, speaking to a male she knew before getting into a taxi and leaving alone. 

Police believe that Tracey may have been killed in her own home and her body later dumped in Clarkes Hill Road. 

A post-mortem revealed she had been strangled.

The co-operation of the public is sought to establish the identity of the person or persons responsible for the death of Tracey Howard who was last seen alive in Ballarat on 22 November, 1998.

A reward of up to one million dollars ($1,000,000) will be paid at the discretion of the Chief Commissioner of Police, for information leading to the apprehension and subsequent conviction of the person or persons responsible for the death of Tracey Howard.

The Director of Public Prosecutions will consider, according to established guidelines, the granting of indemnification from prosecution to any person who provides information as to the identity of the principal offender or offenders in this matter.
