Three male youths have been charged after keen-eyed police spotted an allegedly stolen vehicle in Reservoir early this morning.
Patrolling uniform members were parked on Cuthbert Road when they saw a speeding Toyota Prado driving with no headlights on Broadway about 4.25am.
The Air Wing was called to provide aerial observation of the vehicle while it travelled through Reservoir’s back streets before coming to a stop at a dead end on Barry Street.
The trio fled the vehicle on foot and began jumping fences until they reached Edwards Creek Walking Trail where they allegedly began dumping items while the chopper watched from overhead.
Police searched the area and located all three occupants – a 16-year-old and two 17-year-olds from the Yarra area.
Officers also discovered two machetes allegedly thrown into nearby shrubs.
The Prado was allegedly stolen from a Fitzroy address yesterday.
All three have been charged with theft of motor vehicle and possess prohibited weapon (machete).
One of the 17-year-olds and the 16-year-old were also charged with breach of bail.
All will appear before a children’s court at a later date.
