Pair charged after stolen vehicle recovered in Brunswick

Two girls have been charged after an allegedly stolen car was dumped in Brunswick East early this morning.

Officers on patrol spotted an allegedly stolen blue Toyota Camry on Bell Street in Preston just before 2am.

Police kept eyes on the Toyota as it drove through Thornbury and Brunswick East.

It’s alleged the occupants of the Toyota dumped the car on Stewart Street and took off on foot.

With the assistance of the dog squad, police moved in, and the two duo were arrested.

A 16-year-old girl from the Moreland area was given an official caution for theft of motor vehicle.

A 14-year-old girl from the Hume area was released pending summons to appear at a children’s Court at a later date.

There were no injuries.

It is alleged the Toyota was stolen from a Bulleen address last week.

The investigation remains ongoing.
