Two charged after evading police in western suburbs

Westgate Highway Patrol officers have charged two men after they allegedly evaded police following a hoon meet in Melbourne’s western suburbs last night.

Police were initially called to reports of an alleged hoon meet on Permas Way in Truganina about 11.50pm.

The Air Wing spotted a blue Ford Falcon allegedly performing a burnout with two passengers hanging out of the car’s windows.

Officers attempted to intercept the vehicle, but it is alleged to have evaded police, driving erratically onto the wrong side of the road and through the suburbs of Truganina, Tarneit, Williams Landing and Laverton.

Police successfully deployed stop sticks on Bronzewing Street in Williams Landing.

The Air Wing followed the Falcon to an address at the intersection of Whittaker Avenue and Bladin Street in Laverton, where the three alleged occupants hid in nearby bushes but were swiftly arrested.

A 26-year-old Manor Lakes man was charged with 15 offences including reckless conduct endanger life, drive in a manner dangerous, fail to stop vehicle on police direction and dangerous driving while pursued by police.

He was bailed to appear at Wyndham Magistrates’ Court on 9 April.

A 23-year-old Manor Lakes man was charged with 10 offences including reckless conduct endanger serious injury, careless driving, drive in a manner dangerous, drive whilst authorisation suspended and improper use of a motor vehicle.

He was bailed to appear at Wyndham Magistrates’ Court on 10 April.

A 15-year-old boy from the Wyndham area was arrested but later released and is expected to be issued with a number of penalty notices for traffic offences.

The Ford was impounded at a cost of $999.52.
