Two men charged following ram raids at Burberry and Essendon optometrist

Moonee Valley Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged two men overnight following ram raids at an optometrist in Essendon and a high-end store on Collins Street on Wednesday, 16 April where over $400,000 worth of goods were allegedly stolen.

A 24-year-old Mickleham man was charged with 20 offences including burglary and theft.

A 38-year-old man from Pascoe Vale South was charged with seven offences including burglary and theft.

The duo will appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this morning.

The charges follow two incidents early in the morning of Wednesday, 16 April.

Police will allege a silver Toyota Hilux rammed the front roller door of an optometrist on Mount Alexander Road in Essendon around 4am.

A group of men entered the store and allegedly stole approximately $300,000 worth of high-end sunglasses and prescription glasses.

Around 6am, a silver Toyota Hilux rammed the front of a luxury store on Collins Street.

A number of men entered the store, where it will be alleged at least $130,000 worth of items were stolen.

The men then fled the scene in the Hilux and a waiting grey BMW.

Both vehicles remain outstanding, and the investigation remains ongoing.
