Two men interviewed following anti-social behaviour at AFL Preliminary Final

Melbourne Divisional Response Unit officers have interviewed two men in relation to two separate incidents at the AFL Preliminary Final last weekend.

Investigators will allege a 47-year-old woman and eight-year-old child were standing at the conclusion of the match when a plate of food was thrown at them about 8pm on Saturday 19 September.

Neither of the pair were injured and the woman reported the incident to police the following day.

A 34-year-old Seaford man was interviewed by police yesterday.

He is expected to be charged on summons with aggravated unlawful assault (x2) and discharge a missile.

Police also interviewed a 56-year-old man after he was identified allegedly throwing a bottle onto the field at the conclusion of the match.

The Tullamarine man has been issued with a penalty notice, under the Major Events Act, for throwing an object without lawful excuse valued at $418.

He is the second person to be issued with a penalty notice after a 40-year-old Croydon man was initially detained by security and then spoken to by police at the conclusion of the match for also throwing a bottle onto the field.

Police continue to make enquiries along with key stakeholders, in relation to the incident.
