Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a fatal collision in Whittlesea this afternoon.
Two vehicles collided head-on while travelling along Grants Road shortly before 5pm.
The male driver of one vehicle, who is yet to be formally identified, was declared deceased at the scene.
The female driver of the second vehicle allegedly left the scene after getting picked up in another vehicle.
She was arrested a short time later nearby and has been taken to hospital to be treated for injuries sustained during the collision under police guard.
