Woman charged following fatal collision in Wodonga

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have charged a woman this morning following a fatal head-on collision in Wodonga earlier this month.

Police will allege an 18-year-old Corryong woman was driving a stolen Nissan X Trail when it collided head on with a utility in the early hours of Friday, 3 October.

Emergency services were called to the collision on the Hume Freeway, near the Bandiana Link Road ramp, about 12.50am.

The passenger inside the Nissan X Trail, a 16-year-old girl from the Wodonga area, died at the scene.

The driver of the ute, a 23-year-old NSW man, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 18-year-old Corryong woman, who was allegedly driving the Nissan contraflow to traffic on the dual carriageway, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

She has now been charged with culpable driving causing death, dangerous driving causing death and other offences.

The woman remains in hospital under police guard.

The Nissan X Trail was allegedly stolen from a Wodonga West address on 30 September.

Investigations remain ongoing into whether the vehicle was used in other offending.
