Two residents from a share house in South Melbourne have been arrested and charged with drug offences, following an investigation into the alleged trafficking of methylamphetamine.

The Prahran Divisional Response Unit executed a search warrant at the community housing property on Cecil Street at 6am on Monday 7 July, seizing quantities of methylamphetamine, 1,4 Butanediol, and MDMA, with a total estimated street value of more than $4,000.

Investigators also seized four passports and various identification cards in other peoples’ names, as well as cash.

A 55-year-old woman and 43-year-old man were arrested at the share house.

The woman was charged with:

  • Trafficking and possessing methylamphetamine
  • Possessing 1,4 Butanediol
  • Knowingly deal with proceeds of crime
  • Three counts of deal with property proceeds of crime
  • Handling stolen goods.

It will be alleged she had been trafficking methylamphetamine from the boarding room on a regular basis.

The man was charged with possessing ecstasy and 1,4 Butanediol, and two counts of dealing with property suspected proceeds of crime.

Both were bailed to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 25 September.

Quotes attributable to Prahran Divisional Response Acting Detective Sergeant Scott Ishac:

“The true harm caused by trafficking drugs is not always immediately visible, however, we know this type of offending has a large ripple effect on the community.

“Thefts, assaults, robberies and other antisocial behaviour are often fuelled – and worsened – by illicit substances.

“We will continue to track people down who try to make a quick buck by preying on others with a drug addiction, and we will hold them to account.”
