Police are investigating after a car struck a pedestrian and crashed into a café at a shopping centre in Wantirna South this afternoon.
It is believed a 27-year-old woman was struck by the car before it crashed into the premises on Burwood Highway about 12.45pm.
The Hampton Park woman died at the scene.
A diner seated outside the café was assessed by Ambulance paramedics at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle, a 51-year-old woman from Wantirna, and her female passenger were both transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are in attendance to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Police do not believe the incident was an intentional act.
A crime scene has been established and the investigation is ongoing.
