Victoria Police have announced a $1 million reward for information surrounding the death of Helen McMahon.

Around 3.30pm on February 13, 1985, 48-year-old Rosebud woman, Helen Victoria McMahon was found deceased at the Rye back beach near Dundas Street. 

Police believe she drove her green Toyota Celica along Dundas Street, Rye before parking it in the public car park. She then walked to the beach to sunbake. 

Her body was found wrapped in a blood soaked beach towel by a passer-by, her post-mortem revealed she died from head injuries.

The co-operation of the public is sought to establish the identity of the person or persons responsible for the disappearance and homicide of Helen Victoria McMahon who was last seen alive on 13 February 1985 in Rye, Victoria.

A reward of up to one million dollars ($1,000,000) will be paid at the discretion of the Chief Commissioner of Police, for information leading to the apprehension and subsequent conviction of the person or persons responsible for the death of Helen McMahon.

The Director of Public Prosecutions will consider, according to established guidelines, the granting of indemnification from prosecution to any person who provides information as to the identity of the principal offender or offenders in this matter.
