Homicide Squad detectives believe a $100,000 reward could hold the key to solving the shooting murder of a 39-year-old Queensland man.

The body of Wayne Kevin Boyd was discovered by a passer-by on the side of Beattys Road near Kororoit Creek in Rockbank about 10am on 9 November 2001.

The Gold Coast man had travelled to Victoria in the days leading up to his death to allegedly purchase pre-cursor chemicals to assist in the manufacture of amphetamines.

At the time of his death Mr Boyd was a married father with two children. Investigators believe he was allegedly executed in a ‘drug rip off’.

Ongoing investigations have led detectives to believe he may have been shot elsewhere and his body dumped at the isolated spot late in the evening of 8 November or in the early hours of the morning of 9 November.

Police have established he was driving a hire vehicle at the time, believed to be a silver Mazda Metro sedan, with registration number QPI 104.

The car has never been recovered.

Detective Sergeant Graham Guy said police hoped the reward would provide the missing clues to the six year mystery.

"It is crippling for family members to lose a loved one in such violent circumstances".

"It is my hope that this reward will encourage somebody out there with information about this case to come forward and help us provide justice for the Boyd family" Detective Sergeant Guy said.

Police have released an image of a vehicle similar to the one Mr Boyd hired as well as a photograph of what he looked like at the time in a bid to jog someone’s memory and help piece together his final movements.

"Often it takes just one small bit of information to help put the missing pieces into place, so I would encourage anybody, no matter how insignificant they might think it is, to come forward and share with us what they know" Detective Sergeant Guy said.

A reward of up to $100,000 will be paid at the discretion of the Chief Commissioner of Police, for information leading to the apprehension and subsequent conviction of the person or persons responsible for the death of Wayne Kevin Boyd.

The Director of Public Prosecutions will consider, according to established guidelines, the granting of indemnification from prosecution to any person who provides information as to the identity of the principal offender or offenders in this matter.
