The Road Policing Strategy July 2021 to June 2024 has been developed in alignment with the Victorian Government Road Strategy 2020-2030 and the National Road Safety Strategy 2021-2030.

It represents a commitment from Victoria Police to our agreed “Towards zero" goals of:

  • a 50% reduction of road fatalities and serious injuries by 2030
  • zero deaths and serious injuries by 2050.

The Victorian Road Policing Strategy will guide decision making and investment through the lens of road safety.

It has been designed to translate high level strategy into operational priorities and includes explanations on the following seven areas of focus:

  • high risk high harm driving
  • rural roads
  • speed
  • impaired driving (drugs and alcohol)
  • seatbelts and restraints
  • distraction
  • unauthorised drivers

Victorian Government Strategy and Action Plan

Towards Zero 2016-20 Victoria's Road Safety Strategy aims to reduce the lives lost on Victorian roads to fewer than 200 deaths by 2020, and reduce serious injuries by 15%.

Road Safety Victoria

The Road Safety Victoria website provides all types of road users – drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists, pedestrians, heavy-vehicle drivers – with information, including the latest research, events and campaign updates.

It also provides practical advice on how we can all work to help stop the senseless loss of lives on Victoria's roads.

National Road Safety Strategy

The National Road Safety Strategy 2011–2020 represents the commitment of federal, state and territory governments to an agreed set of national goals, objectives and action priorities. It sets out a path for action to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes on Australian roads.

Office of Road Safety

The Office of Road Safety was established in 2019 to provide national leadership in eliminating road trauma in Australia.
