Victoria Police uses various social media platforms to engage with and inform the public. These channels provide important safety and public interest information.

Never use social media to report an emergency

If you are in danger, or need immediate police, fire or ambulance assistance, always call Triple Zero (000).

You can report non-urgent crimes or events 24 hours a day, seven days a week through our Police Assistance Line and Online Reporting service.

You can also contact your local police station to report non-urgent crime incidents.

Social media terms of use

Users who post inappropriate or unrelated content on Victoria Police channels may be banned.

Inappropriate content includes but is not limited to:

  • words or images that personally attack, humiliate or defame an individual
  • content that threatens, discriminates, harasses, menaces or causes offence including stalking
  • depictions of nudity, pornography or child abuse
  • depictions of excessive violence
  • content that is illegal, gives instructions for illegal activity or advocates terrorist activities.

This also applies to content potentially breaching applicable laws, including:

  • copyright
  • privacy
  • defamation
  • contempt of court
  • discrimination
  • harassment.
