VicPol Corporate

The Licensing and Regulation Division of Victoria Police regulates the weapons industry in Victoria.

Our website has a lot of helpful information and links regarding a broad range of weapons related issues.

There are circumstances where it may be appropriate for a person to possess a weapon; Victorian legislation outlines the different types of weapons and the types of activities for which they can be possessed, carried and used. You can also find information regarding Governor in Council exemptions, which are issued by the Department of Justice.

You can find more information about weapons definitions, approvals and exemptions via the links on this page.

You can find out more about the Licensing and Regulation Division, including our most recent Statement of Expectations, privacy statements and our compliance principles, here.

Revised phone hours

Due to operational requirements, the Licensing and Regulation customer service phone line is operating under revised hours. Our phone line can be reached from 10am-2pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Instead of calling, you may instead email LRD at: lrd@police.vic.gov.au

LRD continues to work tirelessly to recover from the impacts of our response to the Stage 4 restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic and are endeavouring to have our application processing timeframes return to normal levels as soon as possible.
