Services for people who are Deaf or have a hearing or speech impairment
You can use the National Relay

You must have signed up to use the service. Register for the National Relay .
The NRS and Triple Zero (000) emergency calls
Once you have registered for the National Relay (NRS), use Triple Zero (000) to make an emergency call:
- TTY (teletypewriter) users dial 106. (This is a dedicated text-based emergency phone relay service for TTY users with direct access to emergency lines.)
- Speak and Listen (speech-to-speech relay) users can call 1300 555 727(opens in a new window) and ask for 000.
- SMS relay users should call 0423 677 767(opens in a new window).
- Internet relay users can connect to the National Relay Service (see the National Relay (opens in a new window) website for details) and then ask for 000.
The NRS and the Police Assistance Line
Once you have registered for the National Relay (NRS), report a non-urgent crime via the Police Assistance Line:
- TTY (teletypewriter) users can call 133 677(opens in a new window) and ask for 131 444.
- Speak and Listen (speech-to-speech relay) users can call 1300 555 727(opens in a new window) and ask for 131 444.
- SMS relay users should call 0423 677 767(opens in a new window).
- Internet relay users can connect to the National Relay Service (see the National Relay (opens in a new window) website for details) and then ask for 131 444.
Interpreter or translation services
If English is your second language and you require an interpreter or translating service, (including Auslan), there are different services you can use to contact us.
If you require an interpreter or translating service, please:
- contact the National Translator and Interpreter Service on 131 450, or
- visit Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS National).

You can also make a non-urgent report in your language through an interpreter.
