But before you apply, here is what you need to ask yourself to make sure you are ready and capable to be a police officer.
Quick eligibility and suitability check for police officers
- Are you 18 or over years of age?
- If you are under 21, have you completed:
- your Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)
- or a Senior Level Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL)
- or equivalent
- Are you an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident? Note: New Zealand citizens must have a Special Category Visa and live in in Australia to submit an application.
- Have police ever spoken to you, cautioned you, or have you been charged with an ?
- Are you able to undertake shift work (morning, afternoon and night shift), 10 days per fortnight? This includes working on weekends and public holidays.
- Are you willing to carry and use a range of tactical policing options to perform policing duties?
- Are you fit enough to fulfil the physical fitness requirements?
- Do you meet the minimum medical requirements?
- Are you open to working in all weather conditions?
- Are you willing to work across different Victorian locations, as per operational needs?
- Can you put aside your religious and political beliefs to uphold the laws of Victoria?
- Will you comply with mandated Victoria Police employee COVID-19 vaccination requirements, including boosters? Note: Current COVID-19 Mandatory Vaccination (Workers) state that you are to be fully vaccinated (this includes the booster vaccination) and that offer of employment will be subject to proof of vaccination.
- Do you have a solid understanding of the recruitment process assessments?
- Are you ready to be considered for a role as a police officer?
