Prepare your information
You will complete an online application form with your information and some longer written responses.
Have these details ready:
- your personal details
- your employment history
- your education history
- any prior offences, traffic-related matters and/or police involvement information.

Get your documents ready
You may need to refer to your:
- birth certificate
- proof of citizenship, permanent residency, or a special category visa status (in the case of New Zealand)
- change of name documents (if applicable)
- valid Australian driver licence (provisional licences are accepted)
- current first aid certificate.

Set yourself up for success
To give yourself the best chance:
- use a desktop or laptop in a quiet space
- allow at least 45 minutes to complete your application
- take your time with written responses - we assess clarity, grammar and spelling
- be honest about any prior offences.

Apply to become a police officer (Melbourne-based training)
Successful applicants will complete training at the Victoria Police Academy in Glen Waverley.
Apply to become a police officer (Mildura-based training)
Successful applicants will complete training in Mildura (spots are limited and applications are open until 17 July 2026).
What happens after you apply
After you submit your application:
- our recruitment team will assess your application and written responses
- if you meet the requirements, you will be invited to progress to the next stage of the recruitment process
- suitable applicants will move through multiple stages, including assessment and testing.
The recruitment process usually takes between 3 to 6 months to complete. All successful applicants must complete police training before starting their role.
Previous policing experience
Prior policing experience from across Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom may be recognised when applying for a role as a Victoria Police officer.
