Your journey to becoming part of Victoria Police begins at the Victoria Police Academy View Mount Road, Glen Waverley, where you will study and train to become a Protective Services Officer.
What to expect
Protective Services Officers will undertake a full time 12-week comprehensive paid training schedule at the Victoria Police Academy. You will be required to attend training Monday to Friday, 7.30am to 3:30pm.
Your journey at the Victoria Police Academy is about dedication, commitment and motivation to succeed. We provide you with all the tools to achieve your goal through regular practical assessments and exams.
Your training will include but is not limited to; Law, Communication Skills, Operational Safety Tactics and Drill. We provide you with the tools to chart your progress through regular practical assessments and exams.
After the completion of your 12-week training course you will gain the knowledge, skills and confidence in the operational environment under the guidance of Transit Safety Division for a further 12 weeks. Following this, you may remain in the city or be deployed to a direct start location within the Melbourne metropolitan area (or regional location if available).
Accommodation at the Academy
It is not compulsory to live-in while training, however, if you live more than 30km from the Academy and if you choose to do so, you will have dormitory-style accommodation, meals from Monday to Friday, computer access, extensive physical training facilities and an environment conducive to study. Recruits residing within the Academy during their training period will be required to pay a fee which is currently set at $489.80 per fortnight and includes meals and accommodation.
The Academy Smoking Policy provides for a smoke-free environment for all employees at Victoria Police Academy, except for two designated smoking points. This applies to all employees, visitors and contractors while on the Academy premises. Smoking is only be permitted during designated breaks at the nominated smoking points.
