Regional applicants who apply to become a police officer before 17 July 2026 may be considered to complete their training in Mildura.

This regional training program gives eligible applicants the opportunity to train closer to home and begin their policing career in regional Victoria.

About the regional police academy at Mildura

Victoria Police is delivering police training in regional locations to better support local communities.

The Mildura regional police academy is part of this regional training initiative. It is not a permanent training location.

The program may move to other regional areas in the future.

Training in Mildura follows the same program as the Victoria Police Academy.

Who this program is for

You may be considered for training in Mildura if you:

  • live in, or plan to live in, northwest Victoria
  • are interested in working in regional Victoria
  • apply and are successful in becoming a police officer
  • can attend training in Mildura if selected.

Meeting these criteria does not guarantee a place in the program.

How to apply for the regional police academy at Mildura

To be considered for the Mildura training program, you must apply to become a police officer.

  3. Understand our recruitment process.
  4. Apply to be a police officer and select the button marked 'Apply to be a police officer (Mildura-based training)'.

What happens after you apply

When you apply, you are applying to become a police officer with Victoria Police.

If your application is successful:

  • you will progress through the recruitment process
  • you may be considered for the Mildura regional training program
  • training location is confirmed during the recruitment process and is not guaranteed.

The recruitment process usually takes between 3 and 6 months to complete.

Training and locations

Training in Mildura is expected to begin on 18 January 2027.

You will complete the same training program as recruits at the Victoria Police Academy.

You will train with other regional recruits before starting your role in regional Victoria.

Final program details will be confirmed before training begins.

Where you may work after training

If you complete training through the Mildura program, you will begin your career in regional Victoria.

For the Mildura intake, roles are expected in the Mallee region (northwest Victoria), including:

  • Mildura
  • Swan Hill
  • Kerang
  • Robinvale.

You will be deployed directly to a regional police station and will not need to go through the standard ballot process.

You will usually stay in your first posting for at least two years. After this time, you can choose to stay in your role or apply to transfer to another location.

After starting as a general duties police officer, you will continue to build your skills through training and on-the-job experience.

There are opportunities to move into specialist roles over time.
