Gifts, benefits and hospitality policy

Learn about the Victoria Police Gifts, benefits and hospitality policy, including information on accepting gifts and the yearly report.

Victoria Police employees must always act fairly, objectively without favour or affection to maintain public trust by being honest, open and transparent.

Any offer of a gift, benefit or hospitality to a Victoria Police employee naturally has strict rules to ensure employees avoid conflicts of interest, and maintain high levels of integrity and public trust.

Victoria Police has re-issued this policy to support behaviour consistent with the Victoria Police Code of Conduct and the Code of Conduct for Victorian Public Sector Employees of Special Bodies.

In accordance with the Victoria Public Sector Commission framework requirements, Victoria Police is required to align and publish the Gifts, Benefits and Hospitality Policy on a public website.

If you wish to acknowledge the service provided by a Victoria Police employee, there are a number of alternative means such as submitting compliments and complaints.

If you wish to offer or provide a gift, benefit or hospitality to a Victoria Police employee, please be aware that an assessment will be made in accordance with our internal policy requirements, and the following may occur:

  • Writing a letter of thanks and forwarding to the Chief Commissioner or the employee's direct manager
    • retained by the employee
    • returned to the person giving the gift, benefit or hospitality
    • donated to a charitable body such as Victoria Police Legacy or the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation.
