From 1 January 2015, the Crime Statistics Agency (CSA) became responsible for processing, analysing and publishing Victorian crime statistics, independent of Victoria Police.
The Victorian Register of Sex Offenders became operational on 1 October, 2004.
The Register operates under the Sex Offenders Registration Act 2004 and aims to:
- reduce the likelihood of registered sex offenders re-offending in the community
- assist the investigation and prosecution of any future offences
- prevent sex offenders from working in child-related employment or volunteer duties
Victoria Police, as the custodian of the Register under the Act has released statistics.
Victoria Police will report annually on statistics from the Register.
