Our Climate Change Strategy 2025-2030 aligns with our commitment for A Safe Victoria and to meet our responsibilities as a Victorian Government organisation.

Purpose

Reduce greenhouse gas emissions and build a police service more resilient to climate change.

The community have confidence in our preparedness for climate change.

Objectives

We can play our part in the joint effort required to slow the impacts of emergency events by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and strengthening our capability in emergency management.

Our actions

Our Climate Change Strategy guides us on 11 actions to prepare for and strengthen our resilience to climate change.

  1. Review the resource model used for major emergencies.
  2. Expand the Joint Logistics Deployment program for emergency readiness.
  3. Improve crisis communication systems with cross-border jurisdictions.
  4. Work with the Australian Red Cross to upgrade the Register Find Reunite system to reunite loved ones during and after emergencies.
  5. Improve the identification, assessment and control of climate-related risks facing Victoria Police.
  6. Improve longer-term planning and preparedness for the effects of climate change, including performance monitoring.
  7. Work with the community to instil understanding of the roles and responsibilities of agencies in any situation.
  8. Build or refurbish police stations based on environmentally sustainable design standards.
  9. Transition buildings from fossil fuel sourced energy to renewable energy.
  10. Explore current vehicle use patterns and options for zero emission vehicles.
  11. Make better choices for the environment when purchasing goods and services.
