The Firearm and Private Security Digital Program is a collaboration between Victoria Police and Service Victoria.
Using Service Victoria, you’ll be able to manage some firearm and private security applications and processes online.
About the Firearm and Private Security Digital Program
In the first release of the program, you may be able to use Service Victoria to:
- Renew your firearm licence (for some licence holders)
- Pay online to renew your firearm licence
- Access a digital version of your firearm licence.
The program aims to make your licensing experience more convenient.
New services will be added to the program through the Service Victoria portal over time.
New services available now
As part of the initial release of the program, the below services will be available.
Access to your digital firearm licence
Individual firearm licence holders (excluding firearm dealer licences, corporate firearm licences and junior firearm licences) will be able to add their firearm licence to their Service Victoria digital wallet.
The digital licence will show:
- your latest licence details, and
- the conditions of your licence.
You will still receive a plastic licence card by post.
Renew your firearm licence online (for some licence holders)
As we roll out the digital program, eligible individual firearm licence holders will be invited to renew their licence through Service Victoria.
Licence renewal packs will still be mailed to all licence holders.
Changes to licence photo requirement for firearms and private security
When you apply for a firearm or private security licence, your photo will be re-used for up to 10 years.
If you’ve had your photo taken in the last 10 years, you will not need a new photo.
When you need a new photo taken
You’ll need to have your photo taken at an authorised photopoint if:
- you’re a new licence applicant
- your photo is older than 10 years old
- you are a junior licence holder moving to an adult licence.
